Biography

Thomas P. Lynch, 88; Former President, E.F. Hutton Group

Thomas P. Lynch died on October 28 at his home in Vero Beach, Florida.

Mr. Lynch was born in New York City. He served in World War II in the 69th Infantry Division and was recognized for his service in Germany with a Bronze Star Medal. While in the military, he attended Syracuse University before going into active duty. He graduated from Baruch College and later attended Cornell University Executive Development Management Program.

Mr. Lynch began his career at Haskins & Sells, CPAs, and subsequently joined Bache & Co, where he became a General Partner. He later joined E. F. Hutton & Company as a General Partner, and served as Chief Financial Officer and President, before retiring in 1986. While at Hutton, Mr. Lynch incorporated the firm and helped take the company public. It is surprising how many people today still remember the slogan “When E. F. Hutton Talks, People Listen!”

Mr. Lynch served as President of the New York Chapter of Financial Executives International and was a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the NY State Society of CPAs.

In 1950, Mr. Lynch married Madeleine D’Eufemia in New York City. They later moved to Madison, New Jersey where they raised their family. He was active in the community and served on the Board of Directors of The Morris Museum in Morristown, NJ. After his retirement, they spent winters in Florida at John’s Island Club in Vero Beach and travelled extensively with the People to People Program, visiting countries around the world to promote goodwill and international relations through golf and cultural activities.

An avid golfer and bridge player, Mr. Lynch held memberships at Morris County Golf Club, Baltusrol Golf Club, Canoe Brook Country Club and John’s Island Club.

Mr. Lynch was predeceased by his wife in 2009.

He is survived by his daughter, Francine Lynch of New York City, his son, Richard Lynch of Vero Beach, Florida, and his sister, Margaret Lynch, of Scarsdale, New York.

Funeral Services were held in Vero Beach, Florida.
